Out of the ordinary / out of the ordinary way / outstanding — meaning: something irregular has happend.
More often is used in negative sense:
Сделано из ряда вон плохо. — (Something is) made very poor.
То, что случилось — из ряда вон выходящий случай! — What happened — is a scandalous matter.
Less often:
out-and-outer
- smth of excellent quality; unmatched
- a scoundrel (see also of the first water)
off the hinges = something is outstanding, great
This show was really off the hinges.
